One of southwest Georgia’s finest was recognized for excellence recently when Rusty Josey was named the 2018 GAOA Softball Official of the Year. The Georgia Athletic Officials Association recognized Josey and others for their outstanding achievements at the GAOA’s Officiate Georgia Day Conference program in Macon this past weekend where he was also inducted into the GAOA Hall of Fame.
“You were chosen for this prestigious award for your outstanding knowledge and skill in officiating, as well as for your integrity, leadership, professionalism, and dedication. You are motivated, well trained, and committed to meeting the demands of your assignments. You are physically and mentally fit and have the knowledge, skills, and courage to make the tough calls and to communicate clearly. Superb officials like you contribute much to high school athletics in our state. A long time high school athletics official, Rusty Josey is entering his 33rd year officiating GHSA and USA Softball. He has officiated the GHSA Fast Pitch State Championships 4 times, the GISA Fast Pitch State Championships 4 times and the GHSA Slow Pitch Championship twice. Josey has also officiated the USA/ASA Softball National Championship 5 times in his career and is a 2013 inductee into the GA/USA Softball Hall of Fame.
Rusty is also the play by play announcer for the WGMK Rockin 106.3 High School Football Game of the Week.
