On Wednesday afternoon, Bainbridge Public Safety Officer Chris Jackson made a traffic stop that resulted in two arrests.
According to the police report, Officer Jackson observed a gold Mercury Grand Marquis with window tint that appeared to be illegal travelling through the intersection of Shotwell and Scott Streets in Bainbridge. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, Dontavious Watson. As PSO Jackson and Watson were talking, Jackson began to smell the scent of green marijuana. BPS Sargent Toby Miller arrived as backup and confirmed the odor.
PSO Jackson advised Watson that he smelled the drug and asked for consent to search the vehicle. Watson consented and during the search, a suspected rolled marijuana joint and a ziploc bag containing $205 cash were discovered. The passenger, identified as Samson Choice, was asked to exit the vehicle and told the officers that he was in possession of an open container of alcohol.
Because of the marijuana discovery, the driver, Dontavious Watson, was arrested on charges of marijuana possession and window tint violation. As the officers ran the name and date of birth of Samson Choice, it was discovered that he had warrants for his arrest in both Thomas and Leon Counties for probation violation. Choice was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants and issued a citation for the open container.
