According to the Georgia State Patrol, a man was killed Wednesday morning when the vehicle he was driving collided with a sanitation truck.
William Paul Cassels, 61, of Bainbridge was driving west on Highway 84, west of Gadsden Road, when his vehicle struck the rear end of a stopped sanitation truck. The truck was momentarily stopped to pick up residential garbage with it’s flashing lights on.
The driver was extricated from the vehicle using the jaws of life and life flighted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries. The car’s passenger, Deborah Gomes, is currently in critical condition in Dothan. There were no injuries to the driver and passenger of the sanitation truck.
The official cause of the accident was ruled to be distracted driving and following too closely.
