There was a five car accident in the eastbound lanes of Highway 84 this morning. Decatur County 911 received a call reporting the incident at 7:41 a.m. According to preliminary reports, there was an initial accident involving three vehicles, followed by a second accident involving two additional vehicles.
According to Julie Harris, Community Affairs Director for the City of Bainbridge, 4 occupants were treated for injuries. It is currently unknown how many, if any, were transported to Memorial Hospital. UPDATE: We have confirmed that two were transported to the hospital. The Georgia State Patrol worked the investigation while Bainbridge Public Safety and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control.
Based on witness reports, it appears that the sun may have played a factor in the crash, causing a “chain reaction” type incident, with several cars having front and rear end damage.
Eastbound traffic was temporarily redirected onto Blackjack Church Road while the scene was cleared.
