Bainbridge Public Safety officers and other emergency responders are trying to find out how a car wound up submerged in the middle of the Bainbridge Boat Basin on the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 13.

The submerged car was called into 911 shortly before 3 p.m. by teenagers who initially thought the car’s hood looked like a wakeboard floating on top of the water.

It’s not known how the car got there. At least one diver is preparing to go into the water to see if anyone is in or around the car.

A check of the car’s license plate revealed it was reported stolen out of Cairo, Ga.

With help from the diver and a boat sent from the Bainbridge Marina, cables were attached to the car and it was pulled out of the water shortly before 4 p.m.

The car was revealed to be a black, 2013 Chevrolet Impala. The car’s windows were rolled down and there was no one inside it.

Stay posted for further details.
