The Meigs City Council hired Tom Lehman as city attorney and former city employee Cissy White and Valerie West as “temporary” city clerks at Monday night’s special called meeting.
No mention was made about when Mayor Linda Harris will resign now that a new administration has been hired. She told residents after her arrest in October, allegedly for stealing money from City Hall, that she would resign when an administration that could “take the city forward” was found.
A subdued council emerged from a closed session in which the members discussed the hiring of Lehman.
According to Harris, Lehman told the council he wasn’t going to deal with “the animosity thing.” Evidently, the council took his scolding to heart and made an effort to be more professional than usual.
Harris said, “We’re going to obey this attorney. We’re not going to run this one off.”
