The Seminole County Lady Indians’ softball team advanced in the first round of the Georgia Class AA state playoffs on Wednesday, defeating Monticello High School in a best-of-three series played in Donalsonville.
The Lady Indians won two games back-to-back on Wednesday evening to advance to the second round, beating Monticello 4-2 and 10-8. The wins improve the Lady Indians’ season record to 22 wins and only 5 losses.
First Game
Seminole County and Monticello volleyed the lead five times on Wednesday, but the Lady Indians came out on top for a 4-2 win in the first game of a playoff series.
The Lady Indians pulled out the win thanks to a strong third inning. An error and gave the Lady Indians the lead for good.
The Lady Indians were led by a flawless day at the dish by Emily Brown, who went 3-3 against Monticello’s pitching. She doubled in the third inning and singled in the second and fifth innings.
Evan Hall was a workhorse on the rubber while bagging the win for the Lady Indians. Hall pitched seven innings and allowed no earned runs, five hits and three walks while striking out five.
Sealy ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just six innings, walked none, struck out four, and allowed four runs.
In the top of the first, Monticello grabbed the early lead, 1-0. The Monticello attack began with a single from Rutledge. Sealy singled, scoring Reed.
Seminole County pushed across two runs in both the second inning and the third. In the second, the Lady Indians scored on an RBI double by Jasmine Wilson, bringing home Brown.

Game 2
Scoreboard operators were busy on Wednesday as the Seminole County Lady Indians and Monticello combined for 18 runs. The Lady Indians eventually won the offensive battle 10-8 in eight innings.
There were 24 hits, including seven extra base hits in the game.
Erin Dow pushed the Lady Indians ahea, in the sixth inning. After Carlee Burke singled, Dow doubled, bringing home Burke.
Dow put herself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Lady Indians.
The Lady Indians would not give up in the game as Monticello was unable to weather a six-run eighth inning deficit.
Monticello scored two runs in the eighth on two singles. Still, Monticello couldn’t draw even.
Even though Evan Hall allowed five runs over eight innings she still recorded the victory. She struck out four, walked three and surrendered eight hits.
The Lady Indians were sparked by Taylor Godby and Dow, who teamed up for eight hits and seven RBIs.
Sealy was the game’s losing pitcher. She allowed nine runs in 7 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out two.
The top of the first saw the Lady Indians take an early lead, 4-0. Hall singled, plating Dow after a triple by Dow got things started. The scoreboard lit up again for the Lady Indians when Brown and Wilson scored on a two-run triple by Godby and Godby scored on an RBI single by Hannah Buczek.
Monticello put up two runs in each of the first, fourth, fifth, and eighth. In the first, Monticello scored on an RBI single by Reed, scoring Tripp.
The Lady Indians added four more runs in the top of the eighth. Dow’s single got things going. That was followed up by Godby’s three-run home run, bringing home Dow and Hall.
