The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into an early morning incident which resulted in a Decatur County Sheriff’s deputy shooting a civilian.
The Sheriff’s deputy responded to a 911 call shortly after 1 a.m. on Azalea Circle, located in the Faceville community in southern Decatur County.
“The deputy did a good job containing the situation,” Sheriff Wiley Griffin said. “We placed the deputy on administrative leave, as we do anytime we have an officer-involved shooting.”
Sheriff Griffin said the person shot by the deputy is being treated at a Tallahassee hospital and does not have life-threatening injuries. The victim’s name has not yet been released. We have contacted the GBI office in Thomasville seeking more information.
Decatur County Sheriff’s Office deputies do wear body cameras, and have cameras mounted in their patrol cars. Video footage related to this incident has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation office in Thomasville, GA.
