Injured driver transported by emergency medical helicopter

helicopter_boatbasinA Bainbridge man who was injured in a vehicle accident on Monday afternoon had to be transported to a Tallahassee, Fla., hospital by emergency medical helicopter, according to Bainbridge Public Safety.

BPS Director Eric Miller said there was a two-car wreck at the intersection of College Street and West Street in Bainbridge at approximately 3 p.m.

One of the drivers, identified as Dr. Oscar Jackson of Bainbridge, had injuries that warranted trauma care, so Decatur EMS employees requested the help of an emergency medical helicopter, BPS Director Miller said.

Dr. Jackson, a retired dentist, is in his 80s.

The helicopter landed in the Earle May Boat Basin at approximately 3:40 p.m. and took off about ten minutes later, enroute to a Tallahassee hospital.

Further details on the wreck were not immediately available.
