Routine Traffic Stop Yields Drug Arrest

On Tuesday, November 8th around 10:30am, Officer Jayson Myers performed a routine traffic stop at the intersection of Sims Street and Troupe Street.

When Myers approached the vehicle, he could smell a strong odor of green marijuana coming from the vehicle. Myers called Officer Chris Jackson and Sergeant Jason Barlow for assistance due to a disturbance caused by onlookers. Myers conducted a search of the vehicle and found a large, vacuum sealed brick of green marijuana with a street value of over $1000, as well as plastic tub containing another large bag of marijuana and an assortment of unused clear plastic baggies commonly used to package illegal narcotics.

As Myers attempted to place Todd Sharod Davis, Jr. under arrest, Davis resisted and was able to free himself. Davis ran approximately 20 feet before Jackson caught up with him, knocking him to the ground, and Myers was able to cuff him.

Investigators Mark Esquivel and Chris Avery were called to the scene to secure the contraband. Todd Sharod Davis, Jr. (21) was charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell or Distribute (Felony), Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute within 1000 feet of a Park or Housing Project (Felony), and Obstructing or Hindering Officers (Misdemeanor.
