The Bainbridge Bearcats traveled down to Tallahassee, Florida, on Thursday night to take on the Godby High School Cougars for their final preseason scrimmage before the 2016 season. The Bearcats looked formidable against the Lowndes Vikings two weeks ago but the Cats were looking for a little more consistency on both offense and defense before they head home to take on the Top 10-ranked Lee County Trojans.
Things didn’t look good early as the Bearcats couldn’t get their offense moving in the 1st quarter and star running back Dameon Pierce was stripped on his seventh carry of the ball game for the first turnover of the game. He made up for it on his next carry when the Alabama commit broke off a long run down the sideline for the first score of the game. The Cougars forced another Pierce fumble later in the ball game and in total forced six Bearcat turnovers.
In the fourth quarter, the Bearcats mounted another drive that resulted in a quarterback keeper for a touchdown to make the score 14-0 and secure the road scrimmage win.
In the second half, Dameon Pierce appeared to suffer an ankle injury but early indications are that it won’t be any more serious than an ankle sprains. He finished with 152 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown for the game.
The Bearcats open their regular season schedule next week at Centennial Field against the 1-0 Lee County Trojans. Lee County defeated Jones County 20-13 Thursday night in the 2nd game of the 2016 Corky Kell Classic.
