Seminole County Traffic Stop Leads to Foot Chase, Wanted Man Captured

A Seminole County traffic stop in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 21 led to a foot chase, tracking dogs, and the capture of a wanted man.

According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Jim Shingler conducted a traffic stop around 1:00 a.m. Thursday morning.  However, the driver of the vehicle made the decision to attempt an escape.  The vehicle took off, traveling through Donalsonville, reaching speeds of nearly 120 miles per hour before crashing into a Highway 84 ditch just west of the City Limits.

The suspect abandoned the wrecked vehicle and took off on foot.  A search ensued and he was spotted around 5:00 a.m., however, he disappeared from view again.  The tracking dogs from the Apalachee Correctional Institution in Sneads, Florida were called in and the suspect was captured around 8:00 a.m. in a corn field just off the highway.

The suspect was wanted for arrest in Valdosta and placed under arrest by Seminole County deputies. At this time, it’s unknown what additional charges he will face for his flight attempt.
