Doug Griffin Announces Candidacy for Decatur County 2nd District Commissioner

I am announcing my candidacy for the 2nd District County Commissioner seat here in Decatur County, Georgia.  I’m asking for Decatur County residents and the 2nd District voters support as my candidacy moves forward during the next coming weeks and months leading up to the 24 May Primary.

After a distinguished and honorable combined military and federal civilian service of over 35 years to my country, I’ve returned to my home in Decatur County with a passion to serve my home county! I am an experienced and proven hands-on leader who believes in shining the light on problem areas and getting them fixed.  My intent is to:

  • Focus on bringing new industry and jobs to Decatur County! Decatur County has not only the need but, the untapped potential for industry and job opportunity growth!
  • Ensuring Decatur County financial responsibility, integrity, and accountability!
  • Working with and for all Decatur County residents!

BIOGRAPHY

James Douglas (Doug) Griffin

Doug Griffin was born and raised in Bainbridge, Georgia.  Doug is the son of Cecil and Anne Griffin.  After attending Bainbridge High School, he joined the U.S. Army in 1972.  After completing basic training and advanced individual training, Mr. Griffin’s first duty assignment was to the 122nd Signal Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of South Korea.  After numerous assignments throughout his more than 23 year military career, culminating as the Sergeant Major for the Director of Information Systems for Command and Control for Communications and Computers (CIO/G6) in the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., he retired from the Army in 1995 at the rank of Sergeant Major.

Upon his retirement from the Army, he returned to his hometown of Bainbridge, GA and established a Telecommunications/Computer Consulting Business.  In April 2000, Mr. Griffin sold his business and accepted a position with Taft Broadcasting, LLC, a Department of Defense Contractor at American Forces Radio and Television Service – Broadcast Center (AFRTS-BC), March AFB, CA as a Senior Broadcast Engineer.

In May 2001, Doug accepted a Federal Civil Service position as a Telecommunications Manager with The U.S. Army Military Traffic Management Command (MTMC) at Ft. Eustis, VA.

In March 2003, he became the Chief Engineer and Information Management Officer at American Forces Network (AFN) – Korea in Seoul, South Korea.  In February 2004, he became the Chief of Staff/Executive Officer providing executive-level management of the organization business planning, budget and finance, civilian and military manpower, operations, logistics, engineering, and information technology (IT) for the headquarters and five affiliated broadcast stations throughout the Republic of Korea.

In October 2011, Doug transferred to Ft. Meade, MD where he became the Director of the Defense Media Activity (DMA), AFN Pacific Region Resource and Program Management covering Japan, Korea, Diego Garcia, Bahrain, Guam and Hawaii.  He directed the planning and staff supervision of the Pacific Region Resource Management Division for financial management, military and civilian human resources, contracting liaison, formal training management, personnel security management, administrative, logistics and facilities management activities for the DMA Pacific Region.

In October 2013 Doug and his wife Cathy, both retired from federal service and returned to their home in Climax, Ga.  They have six grown children and nine grandchildren.

Doug holds an Associate of Science Degree from the University of the State of New York, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology Management from the American Military University and he is working on his Master of Public Administration from Oklahoma University.  He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy and the U.S. Army Staff Management College, Ft. Belvoir, VA.  Doug is an American Society of Military Comptrollers Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM), and a Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) Certified Professional Broadcast Engineer (CPBE).
