Southwest Georgia News Roundup: Local pawn shop owner foils crime

A Dothan, Ala., pawn shop owner helped police catch a burglary suspect Sunday.

Dimitri Wright, 24, of Dothan has been arrested and charged with third-degree burglary. Kaheerah Rich, 22, also of Dothan, is facing first-degree receiving stolen property charges.

Wright and Rich were taken into custody by Houston County Sheriff’s Department deputies Sunday after police were called to West Main Jewelry and Loan. Wright, Rich and another individual who was not charged were at the pawn shop trying to sell items. The pawn shop owner became suspicious after realizing that the items they were trying to sell matched the description of property a recent burglary victim had reported as stolen to local pawn shop owners.

Deputies arrived and took Wright, Rich and a third person into custody. Houston County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Donovan Arias said it is believed that the third person had no knowledge of the stolen property.

Wright is being held in the Houston County Jail under a $10,000 bond. Rich’s bond was set at $5,000.
