Alabama’s Plant Farley to conduct siren test Dec. 15

From the Early County News

The Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, located near Dothan in southeast Alabama, in cooperation with state and local emergency management agencies, will conduct a test of the plant’s emergency siren system Tuesday, Dec. 15 at approximately 1 p.m. EST.

The test is conducted to ensure residents within the 10-mile emergency planning zone can be promptly notified in the unlikely event of a plant emergency and to comply with Federal Emergency Management Agency regulations.

This will be a test. There is no cause for concern and no action is required.

The sirens will sound for about three minutes. Sirens may be heard in Early County and Houston and Henry counties in Alabama. A five-minute telephone survey of residents in the area will be conducted following the test.

Plant Farley is owned by Alabama Power and operated by Southern Nuclear.
