Bainbridge Bearcats improve to 9-0; bonfire pep rally this Thursday (Stats + Video)

The Bainbridge High School varsity football team improved to a record 0f 9 wins and no losses after defeating Westover 42-7 on Friday night. It was the Bearcats’ Homecoming game and the win makes the Bearcats 9-0 for the first time in 55 years.

This Friday night, Bainbridge will play the Cairo Syrupmakers at Cairo’s West Thomas Field at 7:30 p.m. Although Bainbridge beat Cairo 21-7 on Sept. 4, the two teams will play again in the championship of Region 1-AAAA, which is split into two subregions. The game will be played in Cairo because region rules stipulate the two subregions take turns hosting the region championship.

Where The Bearcats Are Ranked: #5 on the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Top 10 Teams in Class AAAA. Bainbridge is also up one spot, to #5 on the Georgia High School Sportswriters’ Association Top 10 poll, which is updated on Thursdays.

The Bainbridge High School cheerleaders are organizing a Bonfire Pep Rally to be held this Thursday night at 6 p.m., behind the soccer fields at Bainbridge High School on U.S. 84 East.

Bainbridge is 9-0 for the first time in 55 years. Bainbridge will try to win their first region title since 1993.

Last time Bainbridge played Cairo for a region championship was in 1967(Cairo won 27-6). Ironically in 1966 the teams played for the region championship in which Bainbridge won 27-25.

Bainbridge WR Tyler Storey went over 1000 yards receiving on the year, the first Bearcat to do so. On the year Storey has 57 receptions for 1070 yards and 7 tds. He also recorded his 5th 100+ yard receiving game on the season.

Bainbridge Quarterback Brett Mclaughlin with 174 yards passing vs. Westover , he broke the BHS passing record for a season now having 1667 passing yards. This breaks former Bainbridge Quarterback Brian Powell’s 1990 record total of 1644.

Mclaughlin also has surpassed 2000 career passing yards currently with 2070.

BHS running back Dameon Pierce currently Pierce has 1442 yards rushing on the season breaking the BHS Soph.record of former RB and current BHS coach Larry Cosby’s 1244 (1986).

Pierce also tied his record of 5 touchdowns in a game and has 28 touchdowns on the season. Pierce has 35 career touchdowns and needs 1 touchdown to tie the Bainbridge record for touchdowns in a career (36-Jonathan Butler 1992-1994)

Pierce recorded his 8th 100+ rushing yards game and his 2nd 200+ rushing yards game this season. For his brief career he now has 12 games of 100+yards rushing the BHS record is 18.
