Firefighters from multiple departments in Decatur and Seminole counties are fighting a large blaze that broke out in a Donalsonville, Ga., peanut warehouse shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15.

The warehouse, on West 1st Street in downtown Donalsonville, is owned by Cloverleaf Cotton Gin. However, the warehouse is reportedly being leased by Sessions peanut company.

It’s not yet known how the fire started, although the presence of flammable peanut oil and windy conditions helped feed the fire once it began. Flames leapt through the roof and parts of the metal roof collapsed onto itself. Heavy black smoke could be seen rising into the sky as far away as Iron City, which is several miles east of Donalsonville.
