Decatur County is purchasing a bulldozer that it has been renting for the past 6 months, to help save money at the county landfill.

The county had been renting a bulldozer from Yancey Equipment in Albany for $7,400 a month. The bulldozer is being used to pack in trash at the landfill, and replaced a bulldozer that had broken down and needed extensive repairs.

The total purchase price was $245,000 over 55 months, although Decatur County will get two big discounts that will bring it under $200,000.

The $37,000 Decatur County has already paid on the lease was applied to the purchase price. In addition, Yancey agreed to let Decatur County trade in the old bulldozer that didn’t work for $49,000.

The new monthly payment is $3,171.35, which will save Decatur County a lot of money in the long run, County Administrator Alan Thomas said.

After five years or 7500 hours of use, Decatur County will also have the option to trade in the new bulldozer for a guaranteed buyback of $101,300.
