Around Our Area: Fatal vehicle crash in Miller County

A weekend crash in Miller County claimed the life of a Leary, Ga., man, WALB reported.

Georgia State Patrol officials say 61-year-old Wiley Smith ran a stop sign around 2 o’clock Saturday morning at the intersection of Johnny Freeman Drive and Highway 91.

His Chevy Silverado pickup was struck by a semi-truck and Smith was thrown from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

A third vehicle struck the pickup. No other injuries were reported.

There’s a new police chief in city of Boston in Thomas County

BOSTON — This Thomas County city’s new police chief has laid the foundation for an all-new Boston Police Department.

Eighteen days into his administration, Chief Jimmy Peeples is building a department in which Boston citizens can take pride.

“We’re building up for the future,” Peeples told the Times-Enterprise Thursday.

The agency has a new staff.
