Around Our Area: Child snatched from Lowndes County elementary school; father charged

VALDOSTA — The Lowndes County Sheriff ’s Office said it thwarted a child abduction plot Friday afternoon.

A man who authorities believe is a non-custodial father, flew a small airplane to Valdosta and stands accused of snatching his child from a school playground.

According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, at approximately 2:15 p.m., two men walked onto the Westside Elementary School campus at 2470 James Road.

The men were reportedly seen taking a 5-year-old child from the playground.

Authorities said a teacher told them she witnessed the snatching, rushed to intervene and was pushed down as the pair took the child and left the school grounds, according to LCSO. Read More at WALB

DONALSONVILLE, GA – Small southern towns are known for front porch sitting. Now the city of Donalsonville is using that same concept to revitalize its downtown.

The Front Porch Marketplace has space for 17 vendors and while they’ve only been open for less than two months, they’ve already had one success story.
