Civic leaders celebrate as new traffic signal to go up in front of Bainbridge High School next week

On Tuesday morning, the City of Bainbridge was pleased to hold a Traffic Signal Celebration at Bainbridge High School to recognize the upcoming installation by the Georgia Department of Transportation of a traffic signal at the entrance to the school.

Special guests included Representative Darlene Taylor, Representative Jay Powell, Senator Dean Burke, and Johnny Floyd of the Georgia Department of Transportation. Mayor Pro-Tem Don Whaley welcomed everyone to the event, Dr. Sydney Cochran spoke on behalf of the Decatur County Board of Education, and Pastor Paul Medley of First Baptist Church gave the Blessing of the Intersection.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, ground was broken to signify the installation which was scheduled to begin on Monday, July 6.

“The Board of Education appreciates everyone that worked to secure this safety measure,” Decatur County School Superintendent Dr. Fred Rayfield said. “Hopefully, it will create a much safer traffic situation for our community going forward.”
