Jury to hear closing arguments in trial on Monday afternoon (updated at 5 p.m. Monday)

At the trial in Albany, the defense rested after calling Grady Co. Deputy Jacob Bush as a character witness for Wade Umbach. On rebuttal, the prosecution recalled Decatur Sheriffs Deputy Julian Crowder and former Bikefest security chief, Robby Lynn Webb. The defense had no rebuttal. At 12:40, the judge ordered a 1-hour recess. Following that will be closing arguments and Judge Louis Sands will give the jury its instructions.

Updated at 4 pm Monday:

Closing statements in the trial began at 3 p.m. The prosecution went first and wrapped up at 3:45. Each of the four defendants’ attorneys has up to an hour apiece to make their own closing arguments. Because the jury goes home at p.m., it is likely that closing statements will continue Tuesday morning.

Update 5 p.m. Monday:
Charlie Cox, attorney for Wiley Griffin IV, completed his closing argument at 5:10 p.m. Monday. Judge Sands dismissed the jury until 8 a.m. Tuesday. When court resumes, the jury will hear closing statements from attorneys for Liz Croley, Chris Kines and Wade Umbach. The prosecution will make one last statement to the jury, and then the jury will begin its deliberations sometime around midday Tuesday. Stay tuned to sowegalive.com for updates
