Track athletes from Bainbridge, Mitchell, Miller and Thomas bring home honors at state meet

Several Southwest Georgia track and field athletes brought honor and medals back home to their schools, on the last day of the high school track and field meet Saturday in Jefferson, GA.

Overall, Bainbridge placed 11th in the team rankings, out of 44 teams competing in the Class AAAA competition. Congratulations Track and Field Bearcats!

Mitchell County placed 11th in the Class A-Public team rankings. Congratulations Eagles!

  • McKinley West of Mitchell County won the state title in the Class A 100-meter dash, with a time of 11.05 seconds.
    West also won the state title in the Class A 200-meter dash, in a time of 22.28 seconds.
  • Thomasville’s A team placed third in the AA 4 x 400 meter relay, with a time of 3 minutes, 26.10 seconds. The team was composed of Travet Whitherspoon, Keldren Reddick, Andrew Jackson and Tommy Hill.
  • Thomas County Central’s Juanye Smith placed 2nd in the AAAA 100-meter dash, with a time of 11.01 seconds.
  • Bainbridge’s Cervantes Jackson placed third in the AAAA 110-meter hurdles, with a time of 14.51 seconds.
  • Chase Harris of Bainbridge finished 13th in the Georgia AAAA 3200 meter run, with a time of 10 minutes, 3.18 seconds.
  • Travet Witherspoon of Thomasville placed 7th in the 2A 400-meter dash with a time of 50.77 seconds.
  • Bo Mock of Miller County placed 7th in the Class A-Public 800-meter dash, with a time of 2 minutes, 13.07 seconds.
  • Bainbridge’s Poncharella Leonard placed 9th in the AAAA 800-meter run, with a time of 1 minute, 58.46 seconds.
  • Thomasville’s Andrew Jackson placed fifth in the Class 2A 300-meter hurdles, with a time of 40.07 seconds.
  • Chase Harris of Bainbridge finished 13th in the Georgia AAAA 3200 meter run, with a time of 10 minutes, 3.18 seconds.
    Travet Witherspoon of Thomasville placed 7th in the 2A 400-meter dash with a time of 50.77 seconds.

Results from Day 1 of the Georgia High School Boys Track Meet in Jefferson, GA
as of 6 p.m. Thursday

  • Bryan Kato of Thomasville High School won the Boys’ Class 2A discus throw, with a throw of 152 feet, 3 inches.
    Kato also won the AA shot put, with a throw of 52 feet, 10 inches.
  • Cervantes Jackson of Bainbridge High School placed 2nd in the AAAA triple jump, with a total leap of 47 feet, 0.25 inches.
  • Victor Bodison of Bainbridge placed 2nd in the AAAA long jump, with a leap of 22 feet, 9.5 inches.
  • John Drake of Pelham placed third in the AA pole vault, with a jump of 13 feet.
  • Javian Williams of Early County placed fifth in the Class 2A long jump, with a leap of 21 feet, 7.75 inches. Williams placed 6th in the AA triple jump, with a leap of 44 feet, 3.5 inches.
  • Westover’s Antravious Parks won the Class 4A shot put, with a throw of 54 feet, 7.50 inches.
