Bainbridge varsity baseball comes up short in rematch vs. Leon, 5-3

Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity fell to Leon 5-3 at Leon High School.

Paul Cunningham got the win for Leon. He allowed three runs over seven innings. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered six hits.

Stan Long took the loss for the Bearcats. Long pitched four innings, walked two, struck out five, and allowed four runs.

Leon never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring four runs on an RBI double by Logan and a three-run home run by Cunningham.

A sacrifice fly by Anderson Bailey in the top of the fourth put the Bearcats on the scoreboard.

Two runs in the top of the seventh helped the Bearcats close the score to 5-3. A groundout by Keith Lyle and an RBI single by Will Kelley fueled Bainbridge’s comeback. Finally, Cunningham got Clark Wiggins to fly out to end the game.

The BHS 9th grade team was to play Leon on Wednesday but the game was cancelled due to the threat of inclement weather.

The varsity Bearcats’ next game is Friday, Feb. 27 at Lincoln High School in Tallahassee. Live 101.9 FM will broadcast the second game of Bainbridge’s double-header vs. Dougherty at the BHS Diamonds on Monday, March 2.
