Ashburn woman dies in wreck near Moultrie

Sandra Deborah Cole Middleton, 53, of Ashburn, Ga., passed away after a car she was riding in crashed into a tree on Sumner Road in Colquitt County, near Moultrie, on Christmas night, according to the Thomasville post of the Georgia State Patrol.

Middleton’s grandson was driving and apparently lost control of the car and swerved across the roadway. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Cairo man dies in house fire

70-year-old Jonas Mannings Jr., died after a fire broke out at his home at 603 7th Street SW in Cairo, GA, on Christmas Eve.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Man charged with DUI after crash injures two others

27-year-old Jose Contreas-Portillo was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol and charged with driving under the influence after a wreck at the intersection of GA 112 and 262 around noon on December 25.

Michelle Nesmith, 40, and her mother, Mavolyn Nesmith, of Blakely, were injured and taken to the hospital in Thomasville for treatment.

Contreas-Portillo was also charged with failure to maintain a lane, no license, no proof of insurance, and causing serious injury by a vehicle.
