Three men from Decatur County, GA, have been charged in connection with a shooting death which happened just after 12 a.m., August 17, in Fowlstown, Ga., according to Decatur County Sheriff’s Office investigators.

The victim was identified as Robert Roscoe Cannon, who was in his 30s.

The shooting happened at about 12:10 a.m. Sunday morning at 121 Philyaw Road in Decatur County. The victim’s mother lives there and he often stayed there, said Investigator Terry Phillips, who is overseeing the case for the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Phillips, Joshua Anthony Lee drove to Philyaw Road with two friends, Johnathan Maurice Johnson and Marquis Scott, to confront Lee’s wife. When Lee arrived, he found his wife in a vehicle with Cannon. When Lee attempted to pull his wife out of the vehicle, a fight ensued involving Lee, Johnson, Scott, Lee’s wife and Cannon.

During the fight, Cannon was shot. Sheriff’s deputies found multiple bullet casings at the scene and later recovered two firearms at a residence on Love Street in Bainbridge, Phillips said.

Not long after the shooting was reported, deputies found the vehicle Lee and his friends had been using, a two-door Ford Explorer, abandoned on Bailey Road in Fowlstown. Around the same time they found the vehicle, a nearby resident called 911 to report they had seen three men run through her backyard and jump into an unknown vehicle.

As it turned out, the three suspects in the shooting had flagged down a motorist and asked to get a ride to Bainbridge, however the driver was unaware there had been a shooting, Investigator Phillips said.

Sheriff’s investigators followed up on some leads and arrested Lee at approximately 4 a.m.; he was found inside a vehicle on West Street in Bainbridge, according to Phillips. At the time of his arrest, Lee had eight small plastic bags containing suspected marijuana on his person, Phillips said.

Marquis Scott and Johnathan Johnson were arrested around midday Sunday at a residence on Love Street in Bainbridge, where Lee and his friends had initially been dropped off by the passing motorist that brought them to Bainbridge, according to Phillips.

Phillips said deputies recovered two firearms from the Love Street residence that investigators believe may have been used in the shooting of Robert Cannon. Johnson had a small plastic bag containing suspected marijuana on his person at the time of his arrest, Phillips said.

According to the Decatur County Jail, the three men charged in the case are:
